Make your Social Mobility Pledge
The Social Mobility Pledge and Purpose Coalition were founded by former Education Secretary Rt Hon Justine Greening, to work with businesses, universities and wider society to level up. It encourages organisations to being a force for good by putting social mobility at the heart of their purpose. 800 organisations employing 8 million people are now signed up to the Pledge.
Ahead of the General Election, Justine is asking Conservative Candidates to make their own Social Mobility Pledge
The Purpose Coalition is made up of some of Britain’s biggest organisations including Virgin Money, Co-op Group, Travelodge, Centrica, Leonardo, Sodexo, Channel 4, Hitachi Rail, Reed, Royal Mail, E.ON, NHS Trusts, Councils and Universities and many more.
Making your Social Mobility Pledge is simple - it means doing all you can to boost access to opportunity for young people in your constituency.
The Pledge
1. Support my local schools, colleges and universities to deliver quality careers advice and mentoring to boost social mobility.
2. Work with local businesses and employers in my constituency to partner with schools, colleges and universities to deliver careers, advice, mentoring work experience and/or apprenticeship opportunities.
3. Provide young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in my constituency with work experience or apprenticeship opportunities in my Constituency or Westminster office.
Signing the Pledge
In order to reduce the administrative burden for candidates and MPs, there is no formal monitoring of the Pledge - we simply ask you to do all you can to achieve the ambitions of the Pledge as an MP and Candidate. Of course, we’d also love to be able to highlight all the great grassroots work Members of Parliament in a new Parliament are doing to drive breaking down barriers.
Should you sign, we will provide you with a social media graphic and template press release to use in your constituency, and if you wish to find out more about the Pledge, a member of our team would be happy to meet with you.
If you are a Parliamentary Candidate, sign the pledge to level up across the UK
There is no formal monitoring of the Pledge, or any spending commitments associated with it. It is a simply a declaration to do all you can as a future MP to break down the barriers to opportunity.
Once you sign up, the Pledge team will follow up with a template press release for use in your local community, and a graphic for use on social media.
